Disappointing Service
I recently returned from a family trip to the Algarve and hired a car from Sixt Car Rentals. Overall very disappointed with the service provided here. Although the car we hired was fine, the points below illustrate why I won't be doing business with Sixt again!
- the car pick was so slow and only operated by two people covering pick ups. It took us almost an hour before being served and getting our car on the road.
- the company operate a full - empty policy regarding fuel, which means you pick the car up with a full tank and return it empty. We stayed in the Algarve for 9 nights and only used a quarter of a tank - hence the company charged us for a full tank of fuel.
- it was not until 3 days driving the car that we noticed a small SD card underneath the radio which to our amazement held Sat Nav maps. It would have been nice to have been told at pick up that the car was fitted with Sat Nav.
- what has annoyed us the most is that upon returning from our trip I noticed a charge applied to my credit card by Sixt with no explanation as to what the charge is. Also applied without my consent. Right now I'm finding it difficult to contact them.

Insurance rip off
I rented a car from Sixt at Faro airport. The car was booked through Rentalcars.com and was booked with full insurance.
Upon arriving at the desk the lady took my booking confirmation and asked me if I would like to take out insurance on the car. I told her that the car already was fully insured after which she told me that my car only had basic insurance (which only covered damage to a 3rd party vehicle). I asked her if she was sure as I had definitely paid for full insurance (and was stated on my booking confirmation) and she said yes I only had basic insurance.
She then informed me that the additional insurance cost would be 21 Euros. Believing I did not have full insurance (and being in a rush) I said that this was fine (price seemed very reasonable) and that she could charge the 21 Euros. Long story short, the 21 Euros was the CHARGE PER DAY (which she completely failed to tell me when she sold me the insurance) and upon returning home after the holiday and checking my booking with Rentalcars.com I confirmed that my car from the very beginning DID in fact have full insurance.
I feel completely cheated by SIXT as it was so blatant that I did have insurance (stated in bold capital letters on my confirmation) and yet the lady convinced me that my insurance was not adequate. Therefore for the whole duration of my trip I was DOUBLE INSURED FOR EXACTLY the same thing. She even sold me road side assistance (that she also didn't tell me was a per day charge) which I also already had under my Rentalcars.com booking. SIXT clearly took advantage of me by lying about how my cover with Rentalcars.com was inadequate and got me to pay for their insurance.
I have written a complaint to them and have not had a response for 3 weeks now. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND USING SIXT!
