I got a discount coupon for CAD $ 50, which I gave when I took out the vehicle, the person who answered me said that in his life I had seen this coupon so I was going to find out, when I returned the vehicle, there was another person attending and this I said I had no idea either, so I charge the full rate and never made the discount and the worst was refused to give me back the coupon.
Good Avis Service, but Beware of Tire Insurance Scam
You have to remember this is a foreign country and a remote Pacific island, standards are different than in the U.S. and mainstream countries. Our rental was a 2015 Ford Fiesta in fair condition on the outside, banged up and scratched everywhere and had a missing rear marker light. All cars are very small, and I was only able to reserve a standard transmission. Later, found out that upon special request that you can get an automatic. But no problem for me with a standard. The service from staff was very good, but upon check-in we were pressured and warned about tire damage...that it was not covered by our CDW insurance that came with the car. This is actually normal for all of Avis...if you run over something or hit a large pothole and damage a tire or wheel, you will be responsible for the cost of damage. However, I felt the pressure was overly suspicious. After examining the car, all the Ford stock wheels and tires were replaced with cheap steel wheel substitutes and worn out tires. Our 15,000km vehicle had all the tire treads down to bare minimum U.S. states' inspection level (about 3mm or 3/32nd inch), which reflects probably around 80,000km or wear. I wonder what they would charge *if* I did damage a tire or wheel...the full Ford stock allow rim and new tire price? --> I don't know for sure, but they could also charge for loss rental days. After one day of rental, I actually had a bad tire (not surprising). One tire went flat and I had to have my resort maintenance staff fill it up, as there are only a few fuel stations on Moorea. It only lasted overnight then went low again. I immediately drove to Avis and explained. They started to accuse me of hitting a pothole, which I did *not*...I was very careful. They did, however, replace the wheel and tire very quickly, and I was back to my vacation time. It was fortunate that my resort was only a few km away, otherwise expect that tires will be problematic due to this Agency's policy of using cheap worn out tires, and that it will waste your valuable vacation time.
