Thrifty Car Rental - Raleigh Durham International Airport - RDU - North Carolina - USA
Unverified Renter Reviews
Overview: I rented a car thru my Blue Chip account and got a great rate $119/week for a full size.
Con: Got to the counter (long wait) and wanted to add my wife as a driver and was told that would cost $13 a day to add another Blue Chip driver? That would have doubled my rate.
Con: I asked if they could switch the reservation to my wife's Blue Chip, the rate would have tripled. Finally told them not to add my wife and a guy in a tie jumped in. After 20 minutes of banging on a keyboard he said my wife was added at no charge but there was no evidence on the printed contract. I didn't have the patience after nearly an hour in line to deal with it.
Con: There is no covered parking for the vehicles. Beware if there is foul weather. The car had 14K miles on it and was scratched up and marred. The interior had been vacuumed and that was it. Dusty dash and console. I took pictures with my phone. Windows and mirrors were water spotted severely and had to be wiped down at home.
Positive: The attendant in the parking lot was friendly and noted the damage on the contract.
Con: If he had not of been there I would have had to go back inside and wait another 20 min in line to get it taken care of.
Pro: There were no problems with the vehicle but I am waiting for some absurd charge to come in the mail.
Conclusion: I guess I got what I paid for. Only way I would rent from this facility again is my rate was ridiculously low.
Suggestions for customers: Nail down additional drivers online or prior to arrival. Bring an umbrella.
Suggestions for Thrifty: Pay some attention to the cleaning details. Repair or pull damaged vehicles off the rental line. Read the reviews.
Check your rental record before you leave their lot!!!
The woman that wrote up our contract told us it would only be an additional $13 to add my husband as an additional driver. Turns out it was an additional $13 a day! A charge we were not expecting. We even looked over the vehicle ourselves and stopped to show her thinking that we were being proactive. We didn't know that we needed to read through the whole contract. We trusted what she told us. Bottom line, don't take the verbal agreement as truth. Check your record before you leave. I called the corporate office and they told me there was nothing they could do about this after the fact.
Also, I had booked a midsize car and we got a Toyota Corolla. I don't think of a Corolla as mid-sized. Very disappointed in Thrifty. I'm never booking with them again!
