Take the truck for a test drive first
We ended up with what I hope was a non-standard experience.
We asked for a 16 foot truck, arrived and received an International 24' diesel truck.
We were told then that the fuel gauge did not work.
At our first stop of the day, we pulled up to the loading dock, approximately 6 miles from the Budget/Avis location. We loaded two pieces of furniture, and when I tried to put the truck in gear, I got an error message that said Brake Pressure with an annoying alarm. We were stuck, the truck would not go into gear. It take about 2 hours from phone call to someone showing up to provide support from Fleetnet, a third party to the entire relationship. They sent a knowledgeable mechanic, but the error code would not show up after sitting there long enough.
So we were back on the road. We drove to a storage unit, loaded for about 2 hours, then drove 10 miles away. When I attempted to put the truck in reverse, the truck shut off, the error message returned, and the truck started rolling back.
I pulled the Emergency brake after applying the main brake, and took pictures of the truck. I then started unloading the vehicle across the street from my home after making a call for the mechanic. The same mechanic returned, I showed him my pictures, he hooked it up to his machine, and nothing.
Seriously, the brakes went out and the engine stopped when I put it in reverse, and he had nothing. 2 hours clears everything, so the timing is perfect to put a bad machine back on the road.
We returned the truck the next day but on the way over was a nail biter. The error message kept showing up, the truck had trouble stopping, and when we got to the location their system was down.
We turned the truck in almost a full day early, but the next day got a late statement and a claim that the fuel gauge was only at 3/4(remember the broken fuel gauge?). They decided not to charge us for that, we paid for 2 full days and effectively a single, short trip in the truck plus a long layover at the furniture store. Very stressful when we needed to make at least two more trips.
Support has been extremely light on this.
