False information and ripped off

I made a reservation online. I called beforehand to check if I could still apply a military discount at the counter even if I paid online, and was told "yes". My flight got delayed and I missed a connecting flight which caused a big change in my reservation time. With that, I would be returning my car after hours. I called Avis and told them this and they said "No problem, your initial price won't change." I got to the car rental location and was first told that I would not be able to apply a military discount. Then I told them I did no want any extra protection/coverage, and again told them I would be returning the car after hours. They said, "No problem, if they have a drop box, you're good to go. The price won't change." Then I got my bills. The initial online charge was $106.87+mileage. I ended up getting another bill for $250.21 to total $357.08. On top of not getting a military discount, I got charged for two days because it was returned after hours due to the flight delay (even though I used it for 4 hours). And the odometer somehow indicated 253 miles when I drove directly home which is 174 miles, and they charged $27/ day for a coverage that I denied (my fault for signing the agreement, but still frustrating that they messed that up). They won't do anything to help because according to their book, they can charge me for these things. The problem is that I was told false things multiple times and they don't care about your circumstance. They just want to suck you dry.

Read Your Receipt before walking out!!!!

Horrible. Like another reviewer had said. READ YOUR RECEIPT before you walk out of there. And no matter what the counter agent tells you. Get EVERYTHING IN WRITING. I rented an Economy Car from Avis (OHare)Travelocity along with the hotel. (Rental Agreement Number:402158761). The rental was for a Compact Car from May 9th to May 16th for $236 plus tax. When I picked up the car, I was assigned an SUV. I told the counter that I didn't need a 7 passenger vehicle for one person. I was told, there were no small cars left. Then I was asked for the different insurances to purchase. I told them I'll take the Loss Damage only.
NOTE: When I picked up the vehicle, it was pouring, and it was midnight. So its my fault that I didn't read the page printed on a dot matrix printer carefully.
After returning to New York, I saw a charge from travelocity, and another charge of $248 from Avis. So I assumed they double charged. Only when I called AVIS that the $248 dollars were ADDITIONAL!!! When I was told about the $15/day upgrade fee, $49.78 gas option (which I refused and brought the vehicle back filled), the $7.99/day RSN (which I didn't even know what it means. Road Side Network), the $15.75/day additional Liability Insurance, I freaked out. After I tried explaining that I didn't agree to any of the above. I was told. "Sir, I wasn't at the counter, and you did sign the agreement". Although at the end I was able to get back $87.64. I was still charged $132.97.
Lesson learned from this Avis.
1. Don't let the Nice person fool you at the counter
2. Although the line is out the door, and there is only ONE person at the counter. Don't feel
bad and go over EACH line if you have to. NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES. I was too
nice and didn't do this

3. When they say don't worry about anything. Be worried, and have any changes in WRITING

The salesman Jimmy is deceptive

I didn't want to upgrade. I didn't want prepaid gas. He said that was the case. I was way overcharged.
