Dollar, watch them on the toll charges
I have rented from Dollar before, I wasn't over happy a very scruffy vehicle, loads of dents and scratches and made you itch from an unclean interior.
This time, however, they didn't have a 7 seater and borrowed one from Hertz, Dollar are owned by Hertz, but the vehicle was top drawer, very nice all round. There may be something in that.
Having not fallen for the "extra's", I hire in the UK through USRentacar and take their Platinum cover which gives me all that I would need. They play on the tired customer, hoping to catch them or indeed the first time visitors who know, no different.
This time, I was led to believe that there were cashless tolls everywhere and I would be charged $15 per violation plus the costs. Very convincing fear factor. But, this was my 4th trip to Florida, I have my own Satnav with an "avoiding tolls" planning, so I did not take that. As it happened I travelled through 2 tolls from Sanford airport to Davenport at a cost of $1.50, both tolls had cash options. Throughout my stay in Orlando, I didn't go through a single toll.
The fun started after I returned to the UK, 4 weeks later I got billed for 4 toll violations on my last day, 4 x $15 admin charges and 4 tolls totalling $6.50 .. $66.50 in total
These toll charges were timed when I was in the airport, I had dropped the car off a couple of hours before the expiry of the rental. I had asked the attendant for paperwork but he said it wasn't necessary, I won't fall for that one again.
There were 4 violations within a short space of time, I had returned a vehicle empty of fuel, as per my agreement. So these violations were obviously committed by their staff who were refuelling the vehicle. The toll roads were not used by me at anytime. At the time of the last violation, I had not only checked in at the airport but I was going through Security.
I appealed the violations and they have investigated and confirmed that I was NOT responsible for the tolls and I will be reimbursed.
No apology or explanation as to how it happened, a curt email that implies they are doing me the favour.
Never again, accept their staff like all other hire companies try it on for "extras" but when the hire company itself does it. Well just google Dollar complaints, exactly
