Absolutely Horrible
Waited 2.5 hours to get my rental car. Car was actually reserved and paid for four months in advance. The agent insulted me when I declined their extra insurance. He told me this was a very expensive car and nicer than what I drove back home. I reiterated that my auto insurance covers rentals. Then he asked me what I drove back home. I told him I have 6 newer vehicles at home and actually have a new $80,000 car that I actually paid cash for. I will never use them again. Hertz is just to the right of their booth and the were processing five customers to Avis's one.
Remember to refill the tank!
I reserved a standard mid-size from Avis for a week's stay in Orlando, but when I arrived they offered to upgrade me to a brand new Mustang for an extra $80. I thought it was a great deal, and it did not disappoint! We both loved driving that car, and there was plenty of time and space to enjoy it on Florida's highways.
Avis is not unlike any other car rental company, in that they require you to return the car with a full tank of gas. In our haste to make it to the airport on the last day, I forgot to do that. They did warn me on renting it that they would charge me to refill it if I forgot, but I didn't realize they would charge $9/gallon when the prevailing rate was $3.50! I've since checked around, and it seems all car rental companies gouge you for the price of gas if you forget to refill it - and I've also learned there are 2 ways to protect yourself:
1) Just remember to fill the tank yourself
2) They offer a "gas insurance" pre-pay to make it cheaper to refill it if you forgot.
I didn't know any of this at the time, because I never forgot to refill the tank before. But I tweeted my dissatisfaction, and Avis got back to me within a day and reduced the price of that gas charge by 50%, taking about $45 off the bill. They didn't have to, but I was obviously unsatisfied so they went the extra mile to make me happy. It worked!
So I'd have to say I was extremely satisfied with everything about their service, and would feel comfortable both using them again and recommending them to someone else.

Horrible experience
Worst car rental experience ever!! Stood for 30 minutes to get help only to find there were no full size cars available. Almost an hour later a car was located. The cleaning appeared to be a hose wash.....spots all over and hard to see through mirrors. No one to help in the garage where it was hot and my husband walking with a cane. The representatives were rude and condescending. I was told there was no supervisor available. When a reservation is made a car should be available. I will never use Avis again!!

Don't rent from AVIS = horrible in all accounts
Don't rent from Avis, at least, at Orlando Airport.
1) Took about 2 hrs standing at the counter to get our car when we checked in already online. No separate line for people who have checked in online.
2) Trusting this company which you should not. We drove the car thinking there was a full tank of gas. NOT! After driving for about 50 miles, the empty gas tank light came on and wow! Called Avis and the only thing they can do is to make a note of it on our account and take care of it when we return the car. REALLY? Can't wait for that experience. I don't think it will be smooth at all.
What they should do for us now is to give this car as a free rental for all the hassle we have been through. But are they. HELL NO! Never will I rent from AVIS again.
3) The car smelled of pot and lasted for several days. Water bottle under the seat. Pieces of paper in the car.

Rented two minivans through Avis with a Costco discount code I've used before (most recently two weeks prior in Dallas) and staff were rude and refused to accept that code. Doubled their price and when the vans were finally ready one had not been cleaned and the other had a large dent in it that we had to argue to have notated on paperwork. Never had such issues with Avis, but on reading reviews I see this is standard practice at this location.
