firefly carhire/disaster

My experience with FIREFLY CARHIRE was a disaster . My instructions was to go to HERTZ car hire . then to be told the car hire was with a company called FIREFLY and one of their agents would be with me shortly. After about 10/15 minutes , a van pulled up , no identification on it . An agent of HERTZ/FIREFLY exited the van and proceeded to attend other customers who arrived after me , and i was left sitting there, after another 20 minutes I asked the HERTZ rep where my car was and what was happening as the other customers who arrived after me had left with the lady who arrived in the unidentified van.She proceeded to tell me that my car hire was with FIREFLY and the agent had left with other customers , at no stage did this agent approach me and ask if i was waiting on a vehicle .I I then had go outside in the pouring rain @ 10.30 pm . I proceeded to walk to the FIREFLY CABIN across motorway to be met with a very unhelpful lady and to my misfortune the same very unhelpful lady was there on met return . I was then charged extra mil: Milage of €36.90 : Miscellaneous Additions of €26 ;00 : Tyres/Glass €12;00 :PERS €8;00 ?? . Another car hire charge of €52.00 that i had already paid on my VISA CARD when booking the car hire. In total my car hire for 4 days was €193.33 instead of €52 as quoted . A complete rip off .

Scammed and then bullied.

1. It was stated as airport location - it wasn't. 2. No mention of it not being an unlimited mileage rental. 3. Rental was made for 2 drivers.
At time of car return, there was an extra charge for the 'extra' mileage on car, despite it being not mentioned at time of rental. And an extra charge for the extra driver, despite this being booked at time of initial rental.
I tried to pay for the initial rental agreement only, and not the two extra charges. I was threatened with legal proceedings. I won't use firefly again.

Firefly car hire,Faro

The location is fine the car fine, full to full petrol policy, the service fine, but the problem is the mileage limit which is 35 kilmetres a day which is completely inadequate . It was an additional 18 euros a day to have no limit which would make the hire more than the top flight hirers, the penalty for going over the limit is 30 cents plus Tax per kilometre. I should have been more careful on booking. As a very regular user of car hire at Faro I find it a bit like the Wild West of car hire, where hidden charges appear from nowhere, inter rent have started charging for transport to their car hire location 5 minutes away, certain companies I always avoid, Gold car is one them who if you won't buy their very expensive excess policy they can be very very rude and will try and find a scratch to charge you for if you you haven't bought their policy.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE

Terrible experience, "Igor" just got a pen and "amended" my contract in his own handwriting when we arrived. He made it so that we could only do 35km a day and after that he would charge us for every kilometer! Said it was Ryanair's fault. (We had booked and paid through the airline) Ryanair "customer service" were less than useless, saying that Firefly were a third party even though we had paid them, neither would take responsibility just put a huge block on my credit card and said they would get every single cent for every km off my credit card. I just parked it at the hotel for 11 days and took taxis instead. This company is not actually in Faro airport but in a caravan abandoned in a dusty unpaved field nearby. The only way to get there is to take children/baggage out on the public roads and through traffic, there are no footpaths as it is an industrial area near the airport. Avoid like the plague. Go with a reputable firm, it will be cheaper in the end, and never book any third party services through Ryanair, you will get shafted and they will only laugh at you, they don't give a damn.

Value for money

Rented in September 2014. Received a brand new Ford Focus. Location is not on terminal but right outside arrivals on the right, it took me 2m walk to get there, great for returning the car faster. Staff was ok and helpfull.
