Beware of Thrifty in Amsterdam (and anywhere else) in Amsterdam they dont even have an office)

I see already two other -now closed- forums are dedicated to the dirty tricks and dealings of Amsterdam Airport's Thrifty Car Rental. Probably no wonder that they will ALWAYS beat any other companies quote on this location.... 1. I have pre-paid a 2 day car rental with them at 68 EUR 2. Two days before traveling my girlfriend's work schedule changed, so I had no other choice but to go online and cancel this reservation. 3. To my biggest surprise, it turns out that cancellation with this company is always for a fee, but within 7 days that fee is the 100% of what you have paid. So I'm not even sure why I have bothered canceling it as it resulted losing all my money, 68 EUR anyway. (PLEASE NOTE, THAT AS RIDICULOUS THIS CANCELLATION POLICY IS, IT IS STILL 100% MY STUPIDITY TO FALL FOR IT, I SHOULD HAVE READ ALL THIS BEFORE MAKING THE BOOKING, FAIR ENOUGH...WHAT HAPPENED NEXT, IS HOWEVER, WHAT I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU, HOPING YOU WONT DO THE SAME MISTAKE OF DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY) 4. Since quite a significant amount of the car rental are airport fees, it is a tad bit on (could we say illegal) that even that segment of your payment is lost on cancellation. I mean I have never even been to the airport, hard to see what sort of "airport fees" did really occur, but hey. 5. Within a few hours after this completely pointless cancellation, it turns out that my girlfriend can still get half day off, so we can fly with a later flight, and will only lose 1 day of our 2 day mini-break. 6. I call the company to let them know, that instead of canceling, I would just like to shorten my reservation and would appreciate if the 68 EUR that I have just lost with them a few hours ago, could be used against this 1 day rental (and even pay if any processing fees would occur) 7. The company laughed in my face, saying that money is already collected as cancellation fee, I wont be able to use it, don't bother, good bye. 8. I had difficulties to believe a company would care so less about serving (and of course keeping) me as a client, like the money I had lost went straight away to some magical place where its no longer accessible... it went to their pocket, for no work or service too. All I wanted is to have some empathy on that, since I have already paid 68 EUR for precisely nothing, and I still wanted to remain their client (and still even pay some fees, despite all I wanted is to make my pre-paid 2 day reservation into a 1 day one......) , instead of starting a brand new reservation with a brand new company. They said, in the most unfriendly and humiliating way possible "WE ARE NOT EVEN THRIFTY, WE ARE HERTZ, GO WITH YOUR PROBLEMS TO THRIFTY, WE ARE JUST GIVING THE CARS TO THRIFTY CLIENTS....so whats the number of Thrifty I've asked, even though I was calling the number on my reservation voucher... I DON'T KNOW, I DON'T THINK THEY HAVE A NUMBER IN HOLLAND...." 9. Funny thing is, we have had just the most ridiculous rip-off done on us by Thrifty in Budapest not one year ago (at that time they charged us 50 EUR late fee on a 1 Hr 20 Mins delay on a car that we have rented at 22 EUR a day...) 10. At that time we thought it was some attitude problem of a visibly unfit to work, man-hater lady, however, no I can see clearly that its just the way Thrifty operates. Once this company puts their hand on your money and/or credit card details they will treat you like sh1t. ZERO percent empathy, 100% money. Well that's it folks, we have ended up making a new reservation with another company...lesson learned: A.) never cancel a reservation that will take 100% of your payment for cancellation anyway (let it just run, let them even look for you, at least they will do SOMETHING for that money) B.) NEVER BOOK WITH THRIFTY (they don't need you as a returning customer for years and decades to come, they will just rob you blind in the here and now)

Scum! Betrug!

Think twice before booking through Auto Europe!

Made a booking for Amsterdam Schiphol with my debit credit card. Never ever had problems with the card all over the world. The rude lady at the Hertz/Thrifty counter refused my card and did not even offer alternatives. She did not even accept a cash deposit. She said i could claim my money back and i did not get my money back. So no car and they kept my money.
Never ever again!!! Rather spend more money for more professional companies!!!

Easiest company to rent from

This off-airport location keeps you from lugging your luggage around trying to find the other companies in the airport car parks. It's more cost effective, and there is a shuttle bus that picks you up right outside of the terminal and brings you to the location faster than booking directly at the airport.

Location is huge, and has a petrol station right there...no guessing if the tank is full or not. Easier to drive away from this location as well.

Cars and Staff are friendly, and the waiting area where the desk is, looks like a full lounge. It's pretty comfortable and really stress free after a long flight.

At the end, the shuttle you right back to the terminal. Loading and off-loading your bags for you...it doesn't get any easier than this.

Love Thrifty - highly recommend.

Swindel in the fuel charge

I returned the tank 1/2 filled but they charged me 80eur, more than a complete tank of the peugeot 208

Thrifty car hire schiphol airport

Plane delayed by 2hrs so did not arrive at airport till 23.45 to find no staff at car hire desk and sign saying to go to airport information if a car had been booked. Nothing at information so had to hire another car with sixt who were very helpful and said there is always problems with thrifty. When i went back the next day to collect thrifty car and try to claim back money paid on other hire car, i was informed that desk shuts at 23.30 and if you arrive after this time, even though flight is delayed then that's not their problem. No matter what the reason the staff will close the desk even if though they knew flight was delayed and car had been prepaid. Awful customer service they could not care less about customer just said it was my fault for being late.

Scam

Worst customer service and policy ever. Booked a car and the grumpy lady refused to give me a car, due to my debit card (same card i made the booking with). Of course, they kept my money. No refund, no car. What a ripp off. Stay away from Auto Europe group!!!
