Terrible! Do NOT use them

Shocking - I paid online via debit card, arrived at Schiphol Airport to pick the car up and said they didn't accept debit cards, only credit cards (which I didn't have on me) - despite the fact I had already paid for it from my debit card! They then charged me more than what I originally paid for the rental before I was allowed the keys. It was 10.30 at night, no choice but to do it. Essentially paid over £200 for a £80 car rental. Rip off.

! ! N O O I T M E E R S I X T ! ! / Never Again SIXT

Wij hebben de auto met blikschade teruggebracht omdat wij de vangrail geschampt hadden. Gelukkig geen blessures, alleen blikschade. Tja, wel krassen van voor tot achter, dus eigen risico foetsie. Terecht, dat is onze keuze geweest. SIXT heeft ons later een oor proberen aan te naaien door te zeggen dat de auto niet verzekerd zou zijn geweest (ondanks de door ons afgesloten verzekering !!!!!) omdat wij de politie er niet bij gehaald hadden. Of wij even de 6.000,- euro schade wilden betalen. Zo niet dan zouden we in een systeem (ELENA systeem van de BOVAG) komen zodat we nooit meer ergens een auto zouden kunnen huren. En om het nog erger te maken werden we meteen beschuldigd van "doorrijden na een ongeval" alsmede van een "vluchtmisdrijf". Het is bedreiging en bangmakerij van de hoogste plank doorspekt met valse beschuldigingen. Het wordt overigens gedaan door meneer Jeroen Snoek van de Schade-afdeling in Hoofddorp. Het is dat wij sterk in onze schoenen staan, maar ik denk dat de meeste mensen onder druk van de juridische afdeling van een bedrijf als SIXT en de door SIXT gestuurde deurwaarders wel tot betaling over zouden gaan. Of, op z'n minst zouden happen in de snel voorgelegde betalingsregeling. Wij hebben van begin tot eind gezegd dat een rechter uitspraak mag doen als zij (SIXT) denken dat ze in hun recht staan. Uiteindelijk hebben ze de gang naar de rechter natuurlijk nooit gemaakt. Ze wisten van begin af aan natuurlijk al dat ze geen poot hadden om op te staan. NOOIT MEER SIXT, dankzij Jeroen Snoek van de Schade-afdeling te Hoofddorp. PS: Het ELENA systeem is door de BOVAG in het leven geroepen om autoverhuurder de mogelijkheid te bieden elkaar te informeren over autodieven, wanbetalers en ander gespuis. Het is niet bedoeld om SIXT een instrument in handen te geven om klanten onder druk te zetten om één of andere (onterechte en ongegronde) vordering te laten betalen.

We have reduced the car with fender bender because we had sideswiped the guardrail. Fortunately no injuries, just look damage. Well, scratch or from front to back, so deductibles gone. Rightly so, that was our choice. And to make matters worse we were immediately accused of "failure to stop after an accident" and a "hit and run". It is a threat and intimidation of the top shelf peppered with false accusations. It is, moreover, done by Mr. Jeroen Snoek Damage department in Hoofddorp. It is that we are strong in our shoes, but I think most people under pressure from the legal department of a company like SIXT and bailiffs sent by SIXT have to pay to go on. Or, at least, would happen in the rapidly submitted payment. We have from beginning to end said that a court ruling should do if they (SIXT) think they are within their rights. Eventually, they have to go to court of course never made. They knew from the beginning, of course, though they had no leg to stand on. NEVER SIXT thanks Jeroen Snoek Damage department in Hoofddorp. PS: The ELENA system by BOVAG created to car owner the opportunity to inform each other about car thieves, defaulters and other scum. It is not intended to provide SIXT with a tool to convert customers under pressure to pay some (unjustified and unfounded) claim.

Another Sixt victim

I booked and paid for the service I required before I picked up the car therefore I would expect the agreement to reflect what I had paid for NOT for them to add additional insurance and make it my responsibility to identify this! I find this whole way of working thoroughly unethical and a blatant attempt to increase revenue by making customers pay for more than they need. I ended up being charged more than double the original price. Customer services response?? They offered me a voucher for an upgrade on a future hire! As if I would hire from these again. I do not want a voucher for an upgrade with your company I want my money back and I want it back now!

Impressively awful!

SIXT in my opinion are criminals.
I booked and paid for the car in full in advance - my plane was delayed so turned up two hours late - there was no car and the desk was shut and my keys were not left behind the service desk along with other customer keys. At the time I had two very young children and lots of luggage and it was midnight about 60km away from where we were booked to stay.

The next morning I called them and they basically told me it was my fault as I had not called and they would not leave the keys for someone who does not call - that was that...it was my fault, that I had paid for a car and was surprised when it was not there for me upon arrival. Two days later they gave me a (pathetic substandard car - I was expecting a VW Golf, I got a Opel Astra - they are not comparable).

I had paid for 7 days, so after 5 days they said my time was up (due t the two day delay in receiving a car) - and said the two days I did not have a car were my fault so I only get five as it was me who did not turn up. I kept it for the extra two days to cover what I had paid for then 400 euro was deducted from my card with no notice and to this day I have no idea what this is for and no one seems to want to tell me....

Finally, I had to extend my stay, for 6 days. I asked them to extend my stay as I could not be bothered to go through the pain of talking/meeting or seeing any from SIXT, I assumed this was the easiest approach. After 24 hours of making a request was told I cold have the car for 290 Euro...I mean come on! 290 Euro for an Astra for 6 days...That was nearly double what I was charged when I had originally booked.

This place is pathetic, the customer service is a sham, the supervisor was rude, and amazingly unhelpful.
Under no circumstances I would I use this horrid place every again... That is SIXT as a whole I would rather walk than go through the effort of dealing with substandard staff!

As someone who travels extensively and tends to get a car upon arrival - I am making it my mission to ensure that every one I know including people I don't steer clear of this underhand organisation

Nice car, insurance scam.

Got a lovely car in the category I paid for. Had no issue until I received the electronic invoice where I was charged for three types of extra insurance that I had not booked and declined when offered at the rental car counter. I never get extra insurance at the counter when renting cars, and distinctly remember saying I only wanted basic coverage (which my traveling companions confirm).

I could have prevented this from happening by checking the contract before signing, but was in a rush to make a restaurant reservation and never had problem like this before in 30 or so car hires. Might have been an honest mistake by the person behind the counter, but Sixt refuses to acknowledge there was a mistake and said this is all on me because I didn't read the contract through before signing.

I will avoid using Sixt in the future due to their poor handling of the situation and will review the contract closely in the future before signing any car rental agreement.
