Amsterdam Europcar are a terrible setup - Don't Touch

I arrived and hired the car quickly at the desk. When I arrived at the collection point I was given a car with over 26000km. I checked round the car quickly and there was quite a few items of damage but they mostly seemed to be noted. I got in the car and drove off and immediately a warning light came on for tyres and overdue service. I stopped and the tyres appeared OK and I had an appointment to go to so I continued with the car which drove OK during the day. I drove 150km on a Motorway. Parked in a visitor space at my supplier with no one next to me and then drove back to the airport. On arriving back at the airport the inspector notices a small plastic trim above the bumper had unclipped - he said it often happens in sunshine as they heat up and that he would speak to the manager and ensure I wasn't charged. I said I want you to write on the return note that the driver had not hit anything and that it was a fault with the car which he did. I took a photo in case of trouble and received further reassurance not to worry. I said the problem is everything is clear to us now but I am worried what will happen when I am away from the car and back in the UK. The trim clicked back but the clips behind were clearly weak. As you would expect from these crooks that run car hire companies I got a bill through the following day for the full excess of Euro850. I rang the Europcar desk immediately and got a Gent called Joshua who agreed with me fully and promised to call back after he had spoken to his manager. He never did. I rang back ten days later and got a lady called Irene who again agreed heartily but said she would need to speak to the manager. I haven't heard back and they still have my money. They were both trained to get you off the phone without giving any commitment to resolve the situations. I meanwhile cannot lead a normal life as I am Euro850 out of pocket. They prey on international customers who have little ability to resist. The small trim would never cost Euro850 to repair and they provide no proof that they even get the repair done.
