Green Motion Car Rental deception

I went to Iceland for Holiday in August and rent a car from Green Motion. When I returned the car, they found there was a 1 cm dent at the side door, so they charged me 290,000ISK (£1,954.42) from my credit car. then they said they will email me how much will be the exact repair cost and refund me the balance. But when I received their email, I was totally shocked because they charged 205,000ISK for a very small dent (only about 1 cm), the amount is equally £1,385.06 Can anyone believe to repair a 1 cm dent from the side door will cost £1,385 (USD2,000)??? Even I consulted the UK Garage who said will only cost under £200 in the UK to do the repair. When I questioned the staff of Green Motion in Iceland, they just answered me that I can't compare the cost between UK & Ice land. UK is one of the most expensive labor cost country in the world, but how can Iceland labor cost is more than 6 times higher than UK? Can anyone believe??? totally not, Green Motion is just trying to rob the tourist of Iceland or the insurance company who cover this matter. Although I have bought the fully protection policy when rented the car on line, I will the claim their charge from the insurance company, but I still very piss off about the Green Motion. Everyone should never rent a car from Green Motion, I don't think they are a proper rental company, they are just using any damage of car customer caused when rent a car to charge extremely unreasonable money for profit making. Everyone, believe me, never ever use their car rental service. Otherwise, you will become the victim as me if you damage the car accidentally.

WORST CAR RENT EVER

Renting a car at Green Motion Iceland was the WORST CAR RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER. They use a SCAM of charging customers for car damages they didn't do. They have vehicles that have excessive damage, mine had around 20 scratches and dents + a crack on the front windshield. Every time the new customer rents the car they make a new ‘car condition report’ in which they mark all existing damages on the blank report. It is impossible to mark all of those damages, as there are so many, so once the customer returns a car they find a scratch or a dent that wasn’t marked on initial report and force the customer to pay for it.

Do not rent from Green Motion

I went to Iceland with my family for a quick 5 day vacation for Labor Day weekend this summer. After getting picked up at the airport and being ferried 30 minutes away to the Green Motion Car Hire garage and waiting another 30 minutes to get called to pick up my car, I chose not to get the absurd ~$2300 "premium insurance" because I've always been a careful driver, and my credit card covers it.

However, after getting my keys, I was shown my car which was outside in the pouring rain, and no Green Motion employee came to inspect the car with me! And even though I took pictures, it was quite difficult to do any type of proper inspection in the pouring rain...this will be important later. In addition, as soon as I pulled out to pick up the rest of my family which I had left at the airport, I found that they had given me a car with virtually no gas, with only enough room for 20K mileage. Unfortunately, when I went to three various gas stations to refill, but none of them would take any of my chip and non chip credit cards, and there was no one to help me, so I had to waste another hour of fruitless efforts and driving back to Green Motion to demand they fill up the gas tank for me.

Thankfully my vacation itself was quite lovely - Iceland is beautiful! However, upon returning my car to Green Motion, even though I took quite a comprehensive set of photos of the car's initial damages, Green Motion charged me for a tiny damage to the paint that wasn't even 1/3 the size of a standard American penny. Unfortunately my photos that I took of the front end of the cover didn't cover that one section, and so I couldn't prove that it wasn't me. They then tried to charge me for another similar nick, but thankfully I did have a photo for that damage, and they had no choice but to let it go.

They then charged me the full ~$2300 insurance policy until they could get the damage assessed by a local garage. Recently the full bill has come out to be $1300 for the small nick, which is absolutely ABSURD, especially seeing as how I've talked to multiple car garages who said they would all quote damages at ~$200-$300. I will now be contesting this claim with my credit card insurance providers to get my due justice, but BUYER BEWARE - Green Motion will do everything they can to squeeze every single bit of money out of you that I can.

Sadly it wasn't until after I had this experience that I did my research and realized this is a common problem with Green Motion all around the world, but particularly their outpost in Iceland. Check Trip Advisor if you don't believe me...

Crap

Min dårligste leiebil på mange mange år. Leide en C-klasse/Golf for en komfortabel reise på Island men fikk en Fiat 500L. Den var elendig lydisolert så veiatøyen på islandske veier var enorm og vindsuset fra vinduene var også plagsomt. I den kraftige vinden på Island var den veldig ustabil. De hevdet da jeg hentet bilen at denne var større og bedre enn Golf. Det er rett og slett tullprat. Finner andre selskap neste gang. Da jeg gav beskjed om tingene over da jeg leverte bilen ristet den ansatte på hodet som om jeg ikke hadde peiling. Uproft!

It was lousy soundproof so the roadside on Icelandic roads was huge and the windowsill from the windows was also troublesome. In the strong wind in Iceland, it was very unstable. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!

First of all i arrived at the airport with no green motion staff in sight, after 10/20mins wandering around car park and car rental areas another customer over heard me mention green motion and told me where to go, and eventually he arrived did the rep, not only was this an hour an a half after i had arrived and originally booked the car but he was not apologetic in the slightest. He then showed us to the shuttle bus where me and my friend had to get in as we were both driving, so he crammed 10/11 people in the the car wherr it was only a 9 seater and set off, to my surprise he was then going down a 90km/h road while showing people in the car his phone and i mean both hands of the steering wheel! When i arrived at the hire place it was a further 45 mins of waiting to get served! I was then served and was told the car i had hired was not available, baring in mind i had requested a manual vw golf petrol, I received a diesel skoda octavia estate automatic. Not thats nothing like i ordered, then came the fun part, we were told of damage, and told there was scratches in the paint and that was it. On looking with my second driver, we saw a huge dent on the passenger, and scratches and belmishes everywhere around the car. To which we mentioned the the hire rep. The car was boring for the travel which isnt a bad thing considering the ice and snow so that worked out well. Then came the dropping off, we checked the car and strated taking photos as the lady we hired from said it wouldnt be checked on straight away would be done later. But a lady popped out and told us it would be checked asap and that she had never seen so many pictures been taken before, we did this solely so we wouldnt get taken for a ride, which brings me to the next part, the rep told us there was a chip in the windscreen about the size of a 5 pence piece, possibly less. Considering we had drove a fair few miles and we did not see a chip at all and didnt hear it we were rather confused. It wasnt on the sheet before so we were in a catch 22 situation. She was adamant it was a crack, it wasnt it was a chip, i have seen cracks and seen chips before, but apparently a chip means you need to pay the sum of 99,515 ISK, around £750, i could get that fixed on my own car insurance for a small excess of about £60, so yeah i got shafted. The staff just stared at you and made you feel uncomfortable the whole time proceeding the drop off and the driver back to the airport was listening to really loud over the top music.

Green Motion Iceland

I went to Iceland for holiday and rented a car from on line before I went. The car rental provider is Green Motion, I picked up the car with no issue but when I returned the car, the staff of Green Motion found there is a dent about 1 cm at the side door, so I had to be charged 290,000 ISK through my credit card immediately as their term &condition. I received their email after 7 days and they said the repair cost for this 1 com dent is 205,517 ISK and they will refund the balance into my credit card. When I saw this figure, 205,517 ISK, I was totally shock!!! 205,517 ISK is about £1,370 (exchange rate 1:150) to repair a 1 cm dent at the side door. I did consult a garage near the London area and they gave me an estimate report cost is £200. I tried to contact the Green Motion to argue their charge but they replied me that I can’t compare the cost between Iceland and UK. Can anyone believe the labor cost in Iceland is 6 times more than UK , one of the most expensive labor cost countries in the world??? I strongly feel Green Motion was trying to rob the tourist of Iceland or the insurance company who cover this damage. And I don’t think Green Motion is a proper and reputable rental company, I believe they try to charge any car renter, who made the damage ,with very unreasonable amount as their profit . Because most of car renters are tourists of Iceland and may not visit Iceland again or in the short term. So I strongly warn the potential car renter never use Green Motion service to avoid to become a victim as me.

Thieves, Thieves, Thieves

the worst experience of my life, were stolen by a scratch that already had the car and also made us feel the worst for being Mexican. we do not like to do this but when reviewing the comments of others decided to talk my experience, green motion are some shoplifters do not recommend ever
