Thrifty in Ecuador is a scam
Thrifty will offer you slightly better prices than all the other car rental agencies, but it's a bait and switch. They will nickel and dime you to death, mostly unfairly/illegally. For example, they may force you to use the most expensive insurance, they will charge you for tiny, unseeable scratches on the car that were already there (and were so small you would not think to put on a damage report upon pick up).
I paid for 2 cars and went back to pick up the next day but they gave me 1 car of smaller category. So I then went for 1 bigger car which they said would take 10 minutes to be ready but took almost 90 minutes. Then when I went to pay for it, they charged me $60 more than the price they told me it would cost. They tried repeatedly to charge me on extra kilometers driven -- changing the km out number, or saying my limit was lower than what was in my contract.
It's all part of a deliberate strategy to squeeze you of any penny possible.
