Budget car rental Santo Domingo
DO NOT RENT A CAR WITH BUDGET IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!
I rented a small car for a week in Santo Domingo and i bought a full comprehensive insurance. Some parts of the mirrors in the car were missing, they got stolen, and they charged me 400 dollars to replace the parts!!! In total I paid more than $900 for a small car a week!! They didn’t send a detailed bill either. I called budget USA and they referred me to Budget international but the number didn’t work !! They know tourists don’t go back there and they charge whatever they want on your card!!
An honest review
Need to inform everyone: BUDGET CORPORATE - Please tell me why you do not inform the public that the BUDGET location in the Las Americas Airport of Santo Domingo is a franchise? ... Is it because by keeping the public uninformed you can then not accept any responsibility when a complaint is filed?
When renting from BUDGET at SDQ a copy of your drivers license is taken, as well as a copy of your credit card. ... Here's the kicker! ... You are FORCED under threat of not getting a vehicle to SIGN A BLANK SALES AGREEMENT. ... A BLANK SALES AGREEMENT! In addition to the original sale agreement. ...
HOW DARE YOU PERMIT A FRANCHISEE TO GET AWAY WITH THAT?
When the vehicle is returned and checked in, and you ask for the copies of your identity and credit card information return, you are told, "NO". ... Then, when you ask for the SIGNED BLANK SALES AGREEMENT back, again you are told, "NO"!
This is disgraceful, immoral, and disgusting that you permit this. And do not tell me you're not aware, I know you are.
For those of you out there that don't know how critical this is, be aware that if any ADDITIONAL FALSE CHARGES are placed on your credit card, your credit card provider WILL NOT REVERSE THE FALSE CHARGES! ... Why? ... Because they'll tell you they have a SIGNED AGREEMENT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF THE CHARGES. ...
And lots of luck of getting any Dominican Consumer Affairs agency to assist you. ... NO SUCH THING EXIST plus, they are as corrupt as the rental agencies.
I will continue to post this periodically on every social media outlet I can find until everyone traveling to the Dominican Republic from the United States STOPS RENTING CARS FROM BUDGET.
Here's my question to you BUDGET: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THE CORRUPT, FRAUDULENT PRACTICES YOU PERMIT FRANCHISEE'S TO DO IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC?
I was quoted a price ($44) for a Budget car rental before I departed the US and upon checking in at the counter in SDQ I was told that the rental would cost 5 times more ($250). I showed the representative my reservation and he said that the quote was for the car but the insurance was more. I stated that I had insurance for the rental on both my credit card and my car insurance company. He stated that the insurance was mandatory and he wouldn't rent the car to me without me paying the huge fees. Felt like a total scam. Trip was ruined as I needed the rental car but I wasn't going submit to the scam.
When I returned to the US, I contacted Budget and after much arguing I was finally able to speak to a supervisor. The response was that they were sorry but there was nothing they can do. They said that because I booked it thru American Airlines I didn't know that the insurance was mandatory. She said that if I booked it thru Budget's website I would have been told about the mandatory insurance. Total lie...because when I got off the phone, I went to Budget's website and reserved the same rental as before. Budget's own website did not require this mandatory insurance. Way to scam your customers!!!
