I was so disappointed with some of the service I recently received in Florida when I rented a car via Thrifty - starting at Sanford Orlando and also at West Palm Beach International Airports. I booked a convertible car as a treat for my family as this makes a trip to the USA special. The booking showed a Camero which would have been perfect. On arrival at Sanford we were told that "ALL customers were disappointed at the moment as we have hardly any convertibles" and the only car available was an 35000+ miles Mustang. We have rented a Mustang before and wanted something different but there was no other choice so we took the white 'banger' noting that it was scratched and dented and high mileage'. We were talked into paying extra for even more insurance than we already had. After a day of rental, the front tire went down and an alarm sounded. We went to the nearest gas station, paid $1.50 to pump it up and it went down again the next day. Back to the gas station, another $1.50. We tried to call the number on the rental agreement but with only a few minutes remaining on our UK phones we were cut off and resorted to Twitter to contact Thrify. The response from the Twitter team was quick and polite and they told me that someone would call us, even though it was an UK number. We waited and pumped the tire up again (another $1.50) and waited and messaged via Twitter again. Eventually we were told (via Twitter) that we could take the car to West Palm Beach (not local for us but nearer that Sanford) and a new car would be waiting for us. West Palm Beach had no idea we were coming. We arrived at West Palm Beach to an almost empty parking lot and were advised by the desk staff that there was a huge problem with getting hold of any cars, let alone convertibles, and we had to settle for a very ordinary and dull Hyundai. If you do not have a USA phone, don't even think about taking out breakdown insurance as you cant contact anyone any other way other than phone!
