Hertz Error Inspires New Segment On Conan

An unfortunate pricing error on Hertz' US website has inspired a new segment on Conan O'Briens late night show on TBS. 

It seems that the show's Executive Producer Jeff Ross, a self-professed long-time repeat client of Hertz and a Hertz Gold Plus member for more than 10 years, recently tried to rent a car for a trip to Florida. When checking the price for a one-day rental of a Premium size car (by the way Hertz, since when is a Chevrolet Impala a Premium car?), this is what he was quoted.

Conan Gets Resolution From Hertz For Pricing Error

It didn't take long for Hertz to respond to Conan O'Brien calling them out on his late night show for an obvious pricing error on their US website that no-one would admit was an error. 

On his show on Monday night, Conan introduced a new segment inspired by an experience that Executive Producer Jeff Ross had encountered with Hertz. In case you missed it, here is Monday's Ross Wronged video.

Hertz Leader Named to the OUTstanding & Financial Times Top 100 Leading LGBT Executives List

Brian Casebolt, Vice President of Merchandising and Ancillary Revenue at Hertz has been named at number 85 on a list of the 'Top 100 Leading LGBT Executives' globally.

The list is compiled by OUTstanding, a not-for-profit professional network for LGBT executives and their allies and published in association with the UK-based Financial Times.

Hertz Just Made Keeping Fuel Receipts Compulsory

Starting today, Hertz have introduced a new fuel policy for renters who travel less than 75 miles in total during their rental at certain locations in the US (the locations have not been disclosed that I can find).

In an email sent to Hertz Gold Club members, the new policy states:

Hertz Ends Exclusive Ryanair Partnership Effective Immediately

Ryanair announced this morning of notification by Hertz that their exclusive partnership to provide car rental services to Ryanair customers was being terminated effective immediately (12:00pm GMT July 2nd). The screenshot above shows the message that Ryanair customers who try to book a car through their website are seeing as of now. 

Hertz is blaming breach of contract due to Ryanair's agreement with GDS distribution companies which Ryanair says has been in place since April 2014.

Hertz Launches Firefly Brand In The US

Firefly is a car rental brand owned by Hertz with a focus on the budget conscious consumer. Hertz was temporarily out of this sector after selling Advantage Rent-A-Car in 2012. Hertz will use Firefly to fill this void and provide consumers with a more affordable option in car rentals. Firefly will compete with other budget car rental brands including Avis’s Payless, Fox Rent-A-Car, and Advantage.

Firefly debuted earlier this year in Europe (currently operating 40 European locations in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy)  and is now working to open twenty locations in US cities.

Firefly opened in Orlando this September followed by locations at select airports including Denver, Chicago, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Honolulu, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Oakland, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Tampa. Firefly is slated to open their Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Cancun locations in December, followed by West Palm Beach in January.
